base module

The ‘Base module’ is the basis for every NetSystem 5 package configuration, as it contains all elements, functionalities and tools that create a common working environment for all designing and calculation modules. The user sees the ‘Base module’ as two separate programs / windows:

NetSystem Manager with the following functionalities:

  • Management of program activation and update as well as possibility of downloading older software package versions in order to process the already finished projects using the version upon which they have originally been prepared
  • Control of the possessed package configuration (information on the modules available in the package, software upgrade possibilities)
  • Management of projects (possibility of creating a new file project, opening an already existing project on a chosen program version, other operations regarding projects)
  • Access to our HelpSystem support platform
  • Possibility to report a problem encountered during work with the package directly to InstalSoft Support (Manager is equipped with a special form, the compilation of which facilitates report processing significantly)

NetSystem Editor, which is the main window for project preparation with the following functionalities:

  • Possibility to elaborate many projects simultaneously (each is opened in a separate Editor window). While opening a new project, it is possible to use ready-made templates, that may contain various predefined settings adequate to a given project scope
  • Control of the project scope. In regard to the defined project scope, some of Editor functions, icons and elements will be hidden in order to enhance user-friendliness
  • General data and default data editing, as well as possibility of advanced editing of working screen and element layout
  • 2D plan view project editing. Automatic generation of a 3D model, that allows to preview the project as well as to edit it to a certain extent
  • Generation of plain schematic views for designed systems, their preview and modification
  • Printout of drawings and of table results as well as possibility to define various layouts for graphic printouts, prepared for each project individually. Possibility to use one of many already-made predefined table results scope
  • Research of elements or of group of elements in a project according to various research criteria. The latter may be personalized. Researched / found elements are highlighted in all views and tables, thus making it easy to discover the same element in various places of the program
  • Building structure editing – import and necessary modifications or graphic editing of the building structure providing basis for calculations and designing with use of other program modules. The building structure may be prepared in various scopes – as required by a given project – starting from simple room layout editing and finishing with a complete building structure comprising walls, ceilings, windows etc., allowing thus to perform full building heat loss calculations. Building structure editing is easier thanks to automated functions (automatic slab generation, wall generation on the basis of room outlines, possibility of declaring multi-storey walls and many others). Layout import of various formats (e.g. .dwg, .jpg, .PDF and others) may become the basis of building structure editing
  • Working environment customization: it is possible to save various window layouts for Editor, that are dedicated for different activities of various modules or for different types of projects, and to switch between them during work with the program. NetSystem 5 also introduces the possibility to work with Editor windows on two different displays, which is a very convenient and recommended solution

Sewage networks

The module enables comprehensive design of external gravity and pressure sewage networks – from terrain modelling and positioning all network elements on the map, through calculations and pipe diameter sizing, to verification of the designed network and preparation of material lists and earthwork schedules. Based on the calculated network, the software automatically generates network profiles.

During the design process, a 3D model is also generated and can be used continuously to verify the network layout and the relative positions of its elements. This makes it possible to identify potential collisions with existing and designed utility infrastructure, as well as to verify the network routing in relation to the terrain.

The model visualization can include both designed networks and non-calculated networks representing existing utility infrastructure.

Explore the benefits of our software

When developing NetSystem 5 – the next generation of software for designing external networks – we drew on many years of experience gained through collaboration with engineers and manufacturers of network components.

The first release of NetSystem 5 incorporates the proven functionality of the previous-generation NetSystem 4, enhanced with advanced features made possible by the new design environment. The new environment provides greater performance and flexibility while supporting current design standards and workflows.

The result is a modern engineering software solution that combines proven functionality with an innovative approach to network design, providing a solid foundation for further development and the introduction of additional advanced features.

IMPROVED WORKFLOW ERGONOMICS

NetSystem 5 offers a wide range of features and tools designed to improve workflow efficiency and user experience. Some are simple, while others are more advanced, but they all share the same goal: to take the ergonomics of the design process to a higher level. Explore a selection of our tools and features.

Integration of functional modules

By integrating all functional modules into a single application, there is no need to switch between separate programs.

To design a new network or view an already designed one, simply switch the editing scope. Configurable visibility of individual editing scopes, including the networks being designed, makes it easy to identify potential collisions with existing or planned utility infrastructure.

In addition, once a drawing underlay has been loaded and the terrain model created, the same project data can be used to develop a comprehensive design incorporating both sewage and water supply networks.

Printed drawings can include all designed networks or only selected ones.

Customizable user interface

The ability to configure and save multiple screen layouts allows for optimal arrangement and positioning of the program windows.

For each stage of the design process, you can save and then select the appropriate layout from a list to quickly switch to the workspace arrangement that provides the most comfortable and efficient working environment.

Keyboard shortcuts can be assigned to the most frequently used functions and tools. Similarly, the set of functions displayed when you right-click is fully customizable.

General data and project templates

A set of standard project data, optionally including graphic elements, can be saved as project templates.

By creating an appropriate set of predefined templates for typical projects, designers can avoid repeatedly performing the same preparatory tasks when starting new projects.

The inheritance system propagates general data to the installation elements added to the project. A “computer” or “pencil” icon displayed next to a specific data field indicates whether the value comes from the general data (or catalogue data) or has been individually modified.

Catalogue filters and search

NetSystem 5 includes an extensive range of product libraries for designing networks.

Advanced catalogue filters make it easier to find the right library by limiting the list of displayed libraries to those containing a specific product group, such as pipes and fittings for water supply networks. Alternatively, you can use the catalogue search function by entering a search term, such as the name of a system, product, or manufacturer.

The icons displayed to the right of each catalogue name indicate the types of elements it contains and whether additional graphical information about the products is available.

Interactive integration of program windows

Interactive integration of program windows enables quick identification and highlighting of a selected installation element across all active program windows.

This can be done, for example, on the map, in the profile view, in the 3D view, or in result tables. In addition, when the mouse cursor is placed over an element, a hint displays detailed technical information and parameters. It facilitates the analysis of a given project, its calculation results and makes it easier to find the reason of issues shown by the program diagnostics.

Managing elements in the program

The new software generation uses the full 64-bit architecture and the newest graphics engines.

Never before have the InstalSoft programs been working in such a smooth way with such large objects (over 100 mb). With accurate hardware, you will have the opportunity to work with the most demanding objects. It also concerns objects of BIM-process provenance. Also various standard editing operations have been accelerated, and the calculation time has become 50% more optimised.

Graphical and textual information on products

Additional possibility to display images of whole systems and their parts along with information from the producer’s website.

It facilitates the choice of the right product. Material list printouts may also contain photos as well as additional element description, which renders the design documentation much more complete and visually attractive.

Easy and fast access to older versions of the program

During the first phase of file opening, the program recognizes the version on which the file has been saved.

By choosing the newest or an older version of the program, the designer gains control on the status of the application which runs the calculations and material list, he/she also controls the product libraries to be used in the design. In such a way, the problem with the lack of access to products, which may be eliminated during the work on a given project for the manufacturer’s assortment changes, has been eliminated.

64-bit architecture

The new generation of the software takes full advantage of 64-bit architecture and state-of-the-art graphics engines.

The latest generation of InstalSoft software delivers smooth performance even when working with very extensive networks exceeding 100 MB. With an appropriately configured workstation, you can work efficiently on even the most graphically demanding projects. Many standard editing operations have also been accelerated, while calculation times have been reduced by up to several dozen percent.

DESIGN PROCESS AUTOMATION

Today, the external network model created in CAE/CAD software contains all the data and parameters required to perform comprehensive hydraulic calculations, which in the past were carried out independently of the drawings. Previously, creating a complete model and design documentation was time-consuming, while making changes to the design was more difficult.

Years of collaboration with engineering designers have driven the development of software that automates and accelerates many of these stages, while making it easy to revise the design when changes are required.

Designing networks on a map

The network design workflow in NetSystem 5 is fast and intuitive.

Automatic element connection, guide lines, precise snapping to points on the drawing underlay, as well as options for defining pipeline connection methods and how network sections are connected to manholes, make the design process smooth and convenient. At every stage, the user retains full control over the network configuration and settings.

3D Model of the Designed Network

The 3D model in NetSystem 5 is generated automatically based on the networks drawn on the map and other data associated with individual network elements.

The 3D view displays all designed networks, as well as other networks that are not calculated in the software and represent existing utility infrastructure. This makes it easy to identify potential collisions and analyse the network location, including against the background of the displayed DWG underlay.

The 3D model enables integration with BIM workflows.

Creating Network Profiles

Once the network has been modelled using the map and 3D view, profiles for the calculated network can be generated with just a few clicks.

The software provides tools for controlling the scope of graphical and tabular data displayed on network profiles. Profiles can also be created manually, without the need to calculate the network on the map.

Drawing settings

All elements of the design documentation are generated fully automatically.

The software allows you to customize the style and scope of the information presented, including map drawings, network profiles, and the 3D network model, as well as additional graphical information such as element labels, project tables, and scale mark.

Calculations and Material Lists

A single click initiates comprehensive calculations.

The designer can control, both globally for the entire project and for selected network section, whether collisions with existing utility infrastructure and terrain breaks are taken into account in the calculations.

The software also generates comprehensive tabular results and material lists containing all elements of the designed networks, based on products from specific manufacturers’ libraries or from neutral libraries used in the project.
